Cleaning gold jewelry to keep it new

Cleaning gold jewelry

Cleaning gold jewelry

Gold is becoming increasingly dearer. Hence it is important to keep cleaning gold jewelry to keep it as good as new. Gold is generally seen as an investment and people buy it to keep it as an asset. The best way that people find to invest in gold is through buying gold jewelry as this serves the dual purpose of investment and accessorizing. However, since gold is expensive and should be preserved carefully, it is important to clean it regularly so that it does not lose its shine and beauty. There are various ways in which the gold jewelry can be cleaned.

The gold jewelry can be cleaned by rinsing it with a mix of water and dish washer or ammonia. The jewelry can then be cleaned with a brush that has soft bristles so that any dirt stuck on the jewelry pieces can come off easily. The jewelry can then be kept under a running water tap to completely clean it and then dried with a soft textured fabric. If the gold jewelry has any gems or stones set into the design then the dish washer solution should be rubbed on the jewelry with the help of a cloth after which it should be cleaned with a clean moist fabric. After this method of cleaning gold jewelry, it should be placed straight side facing down, this will block any moisture to move into the crevices of the jewelry.

Cleaning gold jewelry can also be carried out with regular toothpaste. A brush with soft bristles can be used to brush toothpaste on the jewelry which removes dirt easily. This should then be cleaned with clean running water. For difficult dirt the jewelry can also be immersed in boiling water for sparkling clean results. Photos courtesy of  www.funkyjewelry.org

Make a Statement with Statement Jewelry

Make-a-Statement-with-Statement-Jewelry

Ask another person and they may have their own unique definition about what statement jewelry can be described to be. It has been described as any kind of jewelry that makes a big impact.  Wide cuff bracelets, generously-sized chandelier earrings or big bib necklaces all qualify as statement jewelry. This definition serves us well. In general, statement jewelry makes such an impact that you’d only want to wear one piece at a time.  Of course, for black tie events you can bend the rules a little.

Have you thought about the many uses of statement jewelry? It can promote your cause, inspire others and add excitement to your wardrobe. Worn alone or with other pieces, motivational pendants range in size, style and price. Sold in boutiques and through online artisans and jewelers, customized statement jewelry can include your name, an important date or a favorite word or phrase. Choosing the right type of statement jewelry is important and can take the guesswork out of what to wear to special occasions. From coining a phrase to wardrobe accessorizing, eye-catching statement jewelry can make a difference.

You can even make your own statement jewelry by following these directions. Look through a stack of magazines and jewelry catalogs and mark the designs and phrases pictured that appeal most to you with a slipof paper. Search online using your computer and bookmark any pages that contain the type of statement jewelry you are looking for. Make a final list of the items you think qualify. Notice the different styles of statement jewelry available. Select items such as charms and pendants in gold, silver, pewter or copper, according to your personal preference. Then, determine which type and color of beads work best with the statement jewelry you have selected. Purchase a dainty chain or leather cord to hang your charm or pendant from, if simplicity is more your style. Layer multiple lengths of chains together with multiple charms or pendants for a dramatic effect and to make a bold statement.

Choose clothing and hairstyles that accentuate the statement jewelry. Crop your hair short or pull it up to show off inspirational earrings. Wear necklines that flatter pendants and charms. Pair bold colors with patterned shirts and dresses to make wardrobes pop. Are you having problems incorporating big, bold jewelry pieces into your wardrobe?

Here are a few suggestions and outfit ideas to make statement jewelry into a great accent for your wardrobe. The key is figuring out how to make statement jewelry work for you, instead of the other way around. You may want to start with something relaxed and casual. The skinny jeans, t-shirt and casual shoes keep an outfit relaxed and casual.  You can add a dash of color with a soft sweater. The secret to wearing statement jewelry? Be confident! While the others are being timid and following the trends carefully, you’ll have another plan. Wear it with a great attitude and you’ll look amazing.

Headbands are back in Fashion

Headbands-are-back-in-Fashion

What is a headband? A headband is an accessory worn in the hair or around the forehead, usually to hold hair away from the face or eyes. Headbands generally consist of a loop of elastic material or a horseshoe-shaped piece of flexible plastic or metal. They come in assorted shapes and sizes and are used for both practical and fashion purposes. There are headbands for men and headbands for women. Some are for fashion and some are functional like the ones tennis players wear to keep the sweat out of their eyes or the king Rambo uses to repel grenades or to stop blood flow and other cool stuff.

There are also the horseshoe-shaped headbands are sometimes called Alice bands after the headbands that Alice of the Alice in Wonderland is often shown wearing. These are a bit of a departure from the Rambo/Federer style and probably are not good at keeping the sweat out of your eyes. Alice in Wonderland probably doesn’t sweat. Her headband is more designed to keep her hair out of her eyes.

Headbands have a long history. The ancient Greeks wore hair wreaths. The Greeks and Romans wore these pieces to very special occasions or an important event. Cultures such as the Etruscans and Romans started to decorate their wreaths with jewels made up of gold and silver. While wreaths are certainly a likely beginning of today’s headbands, some believe that current day hair bands have slowly taken shape from scarves that were worn around the head or were modified from the band of hats that tied under the chin.

Over time the wearing of headbands has changed from being worn to special occasions and important events to more of a fashionable accessory. There are many kinds of headbands such as, leathered, plastic, metal, fabric, toothed and novelty. The leather headbands are usually glued onto a harder plastic headband, or they are hand-stitched. Plastic headbands, which are most common, can be wavy, straight or angled and come in many colors. Metal can also be used to form and support leather headbands. Metal-only headbands may be plain or decorated, sometimes with precious jewels. Fabric headbands are comfortable because they do not dig into the head. They usually have an elastic band, so that the headband conforms to the shape of the head. The toothed headbands have comb-like teeth that are connected to the top part of the headband. Their teeth ensure that the hair stays in place. Novelty headbands can be used for holidays and may have decorations attached such as bunny ears, reindeer ears, Santa Claus hats and others. Some headbands even have flashing lights attached. Headbands are often are part of a larger fashion statement – they can be color coded and matched accordingly to one’s outfit.

Another use for headbands is in the Japanese culture where they are symbolic of respect to traditions and other disciplines. Headbands, or sweatbands, are worn around the forehead during physical activity to absorb sweat and keep it from reaching the eyes. Sweatbands are often made of a continuous loop of terrycloth, as it is a particularly absorbent fabric. Folded bandanas, usually knotted behind the head, also serve this purpose. Headbands are usually used for sports but have not been popular since the late 1970s or early 1980s. Until now. Lately all types of headbands are becoming a bit more popular.

Extravagant Black Pearl Designs

black-pearl-designsIf you’re looking to know more about black pearl designs, we can help. What is a black pearl?  A black pearl is like any other pearl in basic make-up and quality, however, a black pearl is the most rare color to come out of an oyster. In reality, almost all colors of pearls are available and popular with some. The black pearl is the hardest to come by in its natural state. Methods for coloring pearls to suit the buyer and seller exist, but the natural black pearl is the least common of all. This inspires inquiry into black pearl designs.

Probably the most common usage of a black pearl is the ring. Rings with a pearl as a primary stone or ’solitaire’ are quite common and can be a beautiful and a less costly replacement for diamonds or other precious gemstones. So, if you’re seeking out black pearl designs, there are many lovely rings available. There are some Tahitian Black Pearl rings available and they are usually set in white gold or silver. Today, most modern designs take into account the specific color of the pearl itself. This allows the creative artist to combine just the right setting with the pearl to make a lovely combination.

Those shopping for black pearl jewelry need look no further than their local jeweler’s. In addition to a spread of rings and brooches, black pearl designs also include many pendants from which to choose. Some of the styles that can be found include a single black pearl in a white gold or silver setting much like a ring. Many shoppers prefer a simple setting and the elegance it brings. But that’s not all you’ll find. There are also many beautiful pendants which are more elaborate and have many pearls or display a pearl design along with a pave of diamonds or CZ. These can also be quite lovely and should be worn with the proper gown to accentuate their beauty.

Why do so many people prefer black pearl designs over other pearl designs? Some find that the color is the most beautiful aspect of the pearl. All pearls are made of the same substance, except for simulated pearls. So, the color, radiance, shimmer and glow of a pearl can come into play to make it more appealing to the eye. Personal preference, occasion and outfit also play an important role. Pearls are also often worn by mature women in the form of a necklace or string of pearls. But this is not always the case. A younger lady can also benefit from the stately beauty of pearls by wearing fashionable designs that give her an aura of class no other jewelry can give.

So, black pearls in various designs are in style and available to suit the most discriminating buyer. Take a look in your local area today and see what is on offer. You are certain to find some good bargains and delightful pieces that can add to your personal collection. About Jewelry during the Renaissance

About-Jewelry-during-the-Renaissance

The period of time we are referring to here is from 1550 to 1700 and this time was characterized by explosive growth in knowledge, artistic expression, global exploration, and trade that led to one of the richest periods in human history. By the mid 1600s, European merchants and traders had spread out across the globe in search of exotic raw materials which would find their way into the art, jewelry, and architecture of the times.

So, it happened that the European fascination with gold and gemstones drove the conquest of several continents, and expanded the empires of many European nations. Among the many notable explorers and merchants of the period was Jean-Baptiste Tavernier, a French traveler who cataloged his journeys to India, Persia, Sri Lanka, and the Far East, while in search of riches to bring back to the European aristocracy.

During this period of enlightenment, luxuries were confined to only the upper aristocratic classes, and jewelry of the period is mostly confined to the crown jewels of monarchies and European nobility. Most of the jewelry from the Renaissance was either disassembled and remade into smaller pieces, kept in state-owned collections such as the British Crown Jewels, or sold off to museums.

During this period, there were elaborate designs of jewelry products. The use of pearls and sparkling gems were introduced by many artists who thrived during the time. Such artists used the pearls and the glistering gem in the embroidery of various clothing materials worn by the men and women of the era. There were also diverse jewelry products used in the decorative arts, paintings, architecture and sculptures. Artisans invented all manner of jewelry products which were characterized by rich color, sculptural and architectural design. This was a big departure from the confined medieval styles which gave no freedom to the artists. In renaissance periods, the various religious jewelry products produced with archaic and traditional religious themes were replaced by classical and naturalistic themes. This was because of the freedom of expression that characterized the renaissance era. Among the best renaissance jewelry products include: the pearls of all shapes, brooches or pendants with miniature portraits, necklaces, chains, girdles, earrings and so on.

Also, the renaissance period saw the introduction of so many other metals in the production of jewelry products. Metals like silver, bronze, brass, platinum and so many others were included to the traditional gold in the production of jewelry products. Despite the changing of styles, it was not to display one’s wealth that seems to have influenced early Renaissance jewelry; the gems and metals that were used were not always the most valuable. Rather, the desire for harmony and perfection of execution influenced styles. Every piece of jewelry was finished on its back and front. Many pieces involve realistic depictions of subjects carved into their gold settings, including human figures, real and imaginary animals, stories from classical mythology and occasionally sacred allegories. A fascinating time that left a powerful and rich legacy. It can be seen even today with the renewed interest in jewelry of that period.

Stainless Steel Objects of Beauty

Stainless-Steel-Objects-of-Beauty

One wonderful thing about Jewelry is the fact that it comes in so many different forms. There are rings, necklaces, bracelets, pins, and watches. In addition, jewelry is created from many precious metals such as silver, gold, and platinum. There are also different grades of gold. There is ten karat gold, fourteen karat gold, eighteen karat gold, and twenty four karat gold. The gold standard in the United States is fourteen karat gold and the gold standard in Europe is usually eighteen karat gold. Sterling silver jewelry can sometimes look like white gold while platinum jewelry can sometimes look like diamonds. All of these types of jewelry can be wonderful to behold, however, men’s stainless steel rings have their own special qualities. Let’s take a look.

What comes to ming when thinking about stainless steel? It is doubtful that we think about stainless steel daily. In fact, it might be the case that we don’t think of stainless steel much at all. What objects are made from stainless steel? The only stainless steel objects that spring to mind are stainless steel flatware and stainless steel bowls. Pots and pans are often made of stainless steel.

But there is also a wide range of wonderful stainless steel jewelry. It might be interesting to note that there is stainless steel jewelry for both men and women. Some say that stainless steel jewelry is cheap and will turn your skin green. This is not the case and only applies to cheaper metals. Stainless steel jewelry will not cause thi effect.

Stainless steel is gaining popularity as a material fior use in men’s wedding bands. It has been argued that both gold and platinum are the most common metals used in creating engagement rings. However, stainless steel wedding rings are just as desireable. This is because they are durable. Stainless steel wedding rings are also affordable, strong, and more eco-friendly than other metals. In addition, both women’s and men’s stainless steel wedding bands are resistant to most damage and will not scratch. IN fact, both men and women who have an active lifestyle will love stainless steel wedding rings because they are the perfect choice over softer metals. In addition, if your skin is sensitive to other metals,  a stainless steel wedding ring is just what the doctor ordered because it is hypoallergenic. You won’t experience an allergic reaction ot it.

When you go shoping for your wedding set, keep in mind the choice of stainless steel. Both women’s and men’s stainless steel wedding rings are just as beautiful and unique as wedding rings created out of gold or platinum. This is because stainless steel wedding rings can be engraved with special characters, figures, and letters that go far beyond traditional engraving. All types of gemstones such as sapphires and emeralds can be placed in both women’s and men’s stainless steel wedding bands as well. So the choice is almost unlimited once you decide to consider the option of stainless steel for your wedding set or other items of fine jewelry.

Some info about Aquamarine

Some-info-about-Aquamarine

There are 3 varieties of beryl: morganite, aquamarine and heliodor. The mineral beryl is a beryllium aluminium cyclosilicate. The hexagonal crystals of beryl may be very small or range to several meters in size. Terminated crystals are relatively rare. Pure beryl is colorless, but it is frequently tinted by impurities; possible colors are green, blue, yellow, red, and white. So, if we want to understnad aquamarine, we must learn a bit a bout beryl. The name beryl is derived from Greek beryllos which referred to a precious blue-green color-of-sea-water stone.

Beryl of various colors is found most commonly in granitic pegmatites, but also in the Ural Mountains, and limestone in Colombia. Beryl is often associated with tin and tungsten ore bodies. Beryl is found in Europe in Norway, Austria, Germany, Sweden, and Ireland, as well as Brazil, Colombia, Madagascar, Russia, South Africa, the United States, and Zambia. U.S. beryl locations are in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Dakota and Utah. In fact, New England’s pegmatites have produced some of the largest beryls found, including one massive crystal from the Bumpus Quarry in Albany, Maine with dimensions 5.5 m by 1.2 m with a mass of around 18 metric tons. Now it is considered New Hampshire’s state mineral. As of 1999, the largest known crystal of any mineral in the world is a crystal of beryl from Madagascar, 18 meters long and 3.5 meters in diameter.

Aquamarine is a blue or turquoise variety of beryl. It occurs at most localities which yield ordinary beryl, some of the finest coming from Russia. The gem-gravel placer deposits of Sri Lanka contain aquamarine. Clear yellow beryl, such as occurs in Brazil, is sometimes called aquamarine chrysolite. When corundum presents the bluish tint of typical aquamarine, it is often termed Oriental aquamarine. The deep blue version of aquamarine is called maxixe. Its color fades to white when exposed to sunlight or is subjected to heat treatment, though the color returns with irradiation. The biggest aquamarine ever mined was found at the city of Marambaia, Minas Gerais, Brazil, in 1910. It weighed over 110 kg, and its dimensions were 48.5 cm long and 42 cm in diameter.

Aquamarine is a relatively common gem, and is thus affordable. Some enormous transparent crystal masses have been found, and exquisite gems weighing thousands of carats have been cut from them. The light blue to blue-green color of Aquamarine may fade upon prolonged exposure to light, so it is especially important to purchase this gem from a reliable dealer. Aquamarine can be faceted into many styles of cut. It is used in jewelry for rings, earrings, necklaces, etc. Many large, flawless gem pieces have been cut. Occasionally, perfect, flawless, six-sided crystals are worn as necklace pendants. Translucent aquamarine displaying a cat’s eye effect and asterism are cut and polished into cabochons. But,these forms of Aquamarine are much less common. You’ll be able to find many samples of beautiful jewelry employing the Aquamarine at your loical jewelry store.
